#1 Did a long study of the battle. The armies sat facing off each other for months at the location. The numbers reported were non-sustainable for food and fodder in such a static situation. Gee, someone fudging numbers. The victors write the history. The greater the disaster, the greater the prestige of the ultimate Roman hero Scipio in the great struggle.

First I've heard of that. What I've read had the Romans arriving there early that morning, suckered/led there by Hannibal's forces.
