If you can get a leg at some distance, say even 40 yards it's big deal for new grunts. Then they begin to get silly and take only limb shots. Every once so often you have to remind them it's not a fair and they're not there to play 'shoot out the star'.

Early American settlers used to "bark" squirrels by shooting below a squirrel on a tree branch and kicking up a fatal spray of wood and bark. This left you with a more usable squirrel than putting a .40 cal ball thru the critter

Pure speculation:
I wonder if the IDF is doing something similar with the infiltrating Paleos - a spray of rock & dirt from a 3 round burst to get their attention and indicate the game is over with only minor "maiming".
