#7 The meter was defined by the 1790 National Assembly as one ten-millionth of the distance from the North Pole to the equator. So forty million meters (or 40,000 kilometers) would be the circumference of the earth. That’s 24,854.84769 miles for those of you that like to think in miles. Pretty close to today's measurements.
