The truth has been out for some time now - McCarthy may have been a drunken, paranoid idiot...but he was right. If I may, let me refer you to an amazing book called The Sword and the Shield: The Mitrokhin Archive and the Secret History of the KGB by Christopher Andrew and Vasily Mitrokhin. It is damning enough that some efforts were made to suppress it before publication here and in the UK.

#8 The truth has been out for some time now Many of the real traitors McCarthy was concerned about, and also ignorant of, retired from their positions with the US government & lived off their pensions to a ripe old age, until they moved on to that Gulag in the Sky. We don't don't know who many (or maybe most) of them really were.

The fact is, if you look at King in his later years, he was publicly moving to the hard left on a range of issues.

Combined with his, um, pecadillos, had he lived, his career might have followed the same trajectory as Conyers or Jackson.
