Gives the appearance of profound memory by recognizing someone in the crowd and remembering certain aspects of their private lives and accomplishments. Looks like someone gave Barry some inaccurate info on Dr. Crow in the pre-brief. I simply hate it when that happens.

#2 Since this man received his Medal of Freedom in August, this is a medal Barack awarded. Thus giving him a "shout out" was a way of reminding the audience that he rewards Native Americans.

P.S. It also makes not knowing the difference between the 2 medals unforgivable.
