"Syria has raised the state of alert of its armed forces because it knows Hizbullah's revenge attack against Israel for the killing of Imad Mughniyeh is near, according to Channel 2.

#9 2 scenarios

1. Oman wants to clear the IRG out of the Omani enclave that juts into the Gulf of Hormuz. Apparently its riddled with IRQ.

They need a US guarantee that Iran will not respond.

2. The UAE will attempt to take back with American support the Tumb islands Iran invaded 10 or so years ago.

Both actions are entirely consistent with 'international law', and Iran will be forced to escalate or shown to be impotent in the Gulf. And both locations are very strategic for Gulf oil supplies.

BTW, I wouldn't rule out both more or less simultaneously.
