As for the gunshot, there was some suggestion it may have gone off during a struggle.

#6 Initial reports mentioned an explosives or chemical lab, but since then - nothing. Now the only news coming out is about the shooting and investigation of it. I too am starting to wonder if MI5 was 'set up' to cause embarassment and inhibit future actions.
