#1 While I have to admit that I do give them the respect for sticking to their ideals, as misguided as I think they may be. I also feel that deep down they thought that nothing could happen to them because they could always say their get out of jail free card. But officer I'm a NUN.

#2 They'll be sentenced to a severe rap on the knuckles with a 12" wooden ruler. Sauce for the goose, you know . . . .

(Actually, I wish my son's school still had a few old-fashioned nuns like that.)

#3 Funny that Nuns will take the rap for messing with grown up's missiles while Priests dodge responsibility for messing with children's...

#4 UPDATE in Al-Guardian! 2 - 3 1/2 years! Brewskis and BBQ again! Woo Hoo!

DENVER (AP) - Calling them ``dangerously irresponsible,'' a federal judge sentenced three nuns to at least 2 years in prison Friday for vandalizing a nuclear missile silo during an anti-war protest last fall.

Despite his strong words, U.S. District Judge Robert Blackburn gave the women less than the six-year minimum called for under sentencing guidelines.

Jackie Hudson was sentenced to 2 years, Carol Gilbert to two years, nine months, and Ardeth Platte to three years, five months.

``We're satisfied,'' prosecutor Robert Brown said.

Hudson, 68, Gilbert, 55, and Platte, 66, were convicted in April of obstructing the national defense and damaging government property.

The Roman Catholic nuns cut a fence and walked onto a Minuteman III silo site last October, pounding the silo with hammers and painting a cross on it with their blood. Officials said they caused at least $1,000 in damage.

The nuns had until Aug. 25 to report to prison but chose to go immediately.

#5 Hey Frank, brewskis and barbeques are for million dollar deals. These misguided dupes deserve something between a beer and McDonalds....
I guess that the judge wanted to stay out of the martyr category of 6 years where the press would go bongo over their sacrifice. Two years, and they will be out in what, 8 months? Maybe these folks just want 3 hots and a cot in their golden years. Dunno.

#6 AP - I don't need much to get the BBQ fired up and cold ones flowing. I think ANY time these moonbats have to spend (actions = consequences) in the lovely confines behind bars serves as a deterrent to other "martyrs"

#7 Don't know how it works in Colo, but in Az.if the law says you get 6 years minimum, then you get 6 years the judge has no choice.

#8 Yes, Frank, I guess I will have to lighten up and get a brewski from the General Supt's fridge by his desk downstairs. After all it is P.O.E.T.S day (Piss On Everything Tomorrow's Saturday)!

#9 "These ladies could not be deterred for the last 20 years. They will be deterred for the time the court sentences them,"

Hope the folks going out to "adopt" a missle silo tomorrow heard about this. Might effect the turnout.

#10 Colorado Springs had 92 for a high today (with clouds and scattered rainshowers), 100 yesterday and 100 predicted (today and tomorrow). Most of the missile silos are in God-forsaken country on the northeastern plains (MUCH hotter than Co. Springs), home of multitudes of rattlesnakes, scorpions, wasps, and ants. The tallest thing on those plains is usually a metal fencepost or back-country road sign. Little moisture, all that heat, good chance for lightning, maybe some heavy hail, even a twister. I can't think of a more deserving bunch of folks to be out there "adopting" such a piece of real estate, especially at this time of year (not that winter's a paradise - -40 wind chill, snow and frozen ground).
