#1 Straw: We had the Crusades, effectively unprovoked, sustained and brutal assaults, on Islam

What a load of bullshit. The Crusades were a defensive response to centuries of Muslim assaults on Christian territories. Note that Turkey had been Greek for thousands of years before Muslims showed up.

It's ironic that you're arguing the morality of the Crusades by bringing up Byzantium. Centuries before the Turks, it was the oh-so-defensive Crusaders that first looted Constantinople.

#3 Muslims respect the Christian religion, and our key festivals; just as in the UK we respect the Muslims’ Eid, and their need for haj or pilgrimage

Hey Jack! Come down where the little people live and see how tolerant Islam is

Sure - for calling upon them to fight the Muslims, and then failing to pay them or feed them. As it was, the Crusaders nonetheless set out for the Holy Land and held the Levant for close to a century, giving the Byzantines crucial breathing room - time that Byzantines used very constructively to debate important topics like the gender of angels. Not entirely surprising, I suppose, that Greece today exists on sufferance - the classical Greece that fought so gallantly for so long against the Persians is long gone. In their place, we have a race that cannot tell the difference between its friends and its enemies, and has had to go on bended knee to people it used to consider barbarians (Northern Europeans) for protection from other barbarians (the Turks) who now own more Greek territory than the Greeks actually do. What a bunch of losers.
