#1 We're Doomed!

America is a quagmire! Evacuate!

And if this puppy decides to go straight North, it'll hit NO. I used to be a regular NO tourist - especially the quieter Jackson Square area around Café du Monde / Streetcar Named Desire. I'd go on forays to Pascale's Manale, Brennan's, Antoine's, etc. But trying to resurrect the flood-prone parts isn't worth 1/3 - 1/2 a Trillion Tax Dollars - money belonging to all of us, not just NO / LA. I loved it, but... There's some talk gaining support that just might save America that shitload of money - basically it's the common sense approach: abandon rebuilding the flood zones. Now if they get hit again by Wilma - or some other storm - while they're still on their knees, well, that position will gain even more support. Hell, better now than after they've repaved the streets with tax $$$ and turned the NO graft monster into a megamonster. I'm all for turning the 9th Ward into a wetlands preserve - to make Farrakhan happy, you see. Sometimes you just have to let go.

#5 My wife went to a Brennan's restaurant the other day and ate off a plastic plate. That truly is a sign of the end times.

#6 What? Where was it? Is there a Brennan's outside NO?

A plastic plate. Sheesh, definitely a step down... I remember their Bread Pudding... I would skip on the Whiskey Sauce - which always made the waiter blanch in disbelief, lol.

#7 It was one on Canal St. that I don't know. To be clear, they're not short of china; they're short of dishwashers and other staff. And they're short of staff because the staff is short of housing. And the staff is short of housing in part because Nagin and Blanco are short a brain between them. Don't send us money, send us Giuliani.

#8 When Dad used to go to NO for Chevron business in the 60s he used to go to Preservation Hall for good dixieland, even used to play his banjo occasionally with them. I guess it is closed indefinitely now after Katrina....and now we are up to Wilma? Whats next?

#11 Okay - I thought you were in Jackson, so was in double-take mode, lol. So the Mrs is looking to your property, I take it?

I'm sure they're just limping along - which is why the entire Nugget notion of mass repop is rather moronic outside of Algiers, at least as I understand the situation.

Rudy could, indeed, assess, prioritize, and organize the situation - cutting the time required dramatically, but that would stymie the Nugget & Blankout Graft commissions and keep them from doing what they do best.

Bro, I'm of two minds about this - and both have major sucking points. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. It's a certainty that the Politicians in place will make the entire process a very expensive clusterfuck. Sigh. I think another hurricane hit and Martial Law make more sense.

#13 AP, the French Quarter, thank God, came through in outstanding shape. I don't know if Preservation Hall is open right now but it wouldn't surprise me.

.com, Orleans Parish (which is not the whole City) right now looks sort of a like a donut, i.e., a large residential area that flooded surrounded by other areas that did not (Uptown, the French Quarter, the CBD, much of the Lakefront, etc.) The issue (or one of many issues) is under what conditions if any you allow rebuilding in the "hole."

#21 Wid Sharpton sezzing that Dubya and the Fed are conducting a policy of genocide gas NOLA's black and poor, and while defending the right of NOLA's black and poor to permanently subsist on [intensified] Fed and only the Fed welfarism; and JACKSON criticizing the same for not allowing NOLA residents to return to a NOLA, never mind that isn't ready for habitation - along comes WILMA. The MSM hegatively stereotypes cartoon character FRED for allegedly beating his wife Wilma when every episode showz its Wilma that does any = all of the alleged hitting, ala pre-DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES!? Inereesting to see what WILMA-GATE brings.
