#3 Remember James Jesus Angleton and the wreckage at the CIA he created in his search for the mole(s), never found conclusively but almost certainly there. Once they start a zealous internal look, the mole-hunt can cause so much damage and institutional suspicion that trust and cohesive attitudes will be lost as things that even a Lifestyle Poly or Single Scope Backgrounder didn't find are uncovered or planted. Perhaps the USSS has been too close to the Executive Center of Gravity for too long and has spent its once world-class reputation through executive sloth and DEI.
