Not sure what the situation is here, but I think there are some situations where that would be a bad idea. There should be shutoffs along the pipeline, and then what is left in the line will burn out.

Beside, at that point, unless people are stupid, casualties are ended though the show is spectacular.

#7 Crude oil doesn't ignite like lighter fluid. Now if you're wading in it with pales in hand, covered with the stuff and headed toward the ruptured pipeline..... that would be different story.
