This just formalizes what has been going on for a few decades and gains Israel another weapons market and another oil supplier. The South Sudanese Army will rapidly become much better than the northern Sudanese, and much more professional. Look at the British recruiting patterns whenever they were fighting the various Maahdis in the Sudan, those tribes will become important in the South Sudan Army. |

From all accounts, we're still paying Major Hasan of the Fort Hood massacre a salary while he rots in jail & waits for his trial. So it seems to be a common sort of bureaucratic idiocy...
It's called 'the law'. Perhaps you've heard of it? In this instance, the law says a service member gets paid at their current paygrade, up to the point where they are sentenced.
There are many quotes about the law's 'unfairness' or 'idiocy' or it being "an ass" or the much abused "forbid sleeping under bridges". That is, until people need the law, or benefit from the law.
In any case, I suspect that whatever monetary penalty is levied (in addition to whatever sentence is pronounced), the amount will equal or exceed whatever pay was drawn. |

The trouble is that there are efforts to incorporate the military into routine police matters. Some recent events:
Homestead Air Reserve Base now takes crimestopper calls, and military police will detain civilians off post, if they are suspected of having committed a civilian crime.
The US Army, Tennessee State police and Homeland Security set up a civilian roadblock and checkpoint in April of 2009. The governor and state representatives were not notified, nor were aware of the illegal, federally ordered collaboration.
In 2008, the Marine Corps Air and Ground Combat Center and the California Highway Patrol collaborated on a holiday drunk driving checkpoint in San Bernardino County.
Following a shooting in Alabama, the Army was dispatched from Fort Rucker to patrol the streets of the city of Samson in 2009.
NORTHCOM announced in 2008 it would use soldiers for civil unrest and crowd control in the United States. On September 30, 2008, the Pentagon announced the 3rd Infantry Divisions 1st Brigade Combat Team would be an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.
This mission was soon expanded to include regular police activities in the absence of any emergency, and now, under a military chain of authority, be sent anywhere in the US to perform police functions against the civilian population.
It all began in earnest with the 2001 Quadrennial Defense Review, which stated that "homeland security is the primary mission of the Department of Defense." |

In Europe *lots* more Islamic terrorism would be needed for it to reach the level reached by separatist (ETA, IRA) or leftist (e.g. Red Brigades, 17th November) terrorist groups.
You forget Madrid. Now, the truth is that there are so many shades in the investigation from unexploded bombs appearing in thoroughly searched areas, official suspects being to a man police informers, explosives never being analyzed (so we dion't know if the one used in teh unexplosed bomb who led police to arrest matches what exploded, members of the explosive disposal teams complaining how they were displaced by the team who brought the official version (and the later being promoted during the Socuialist Governement), removal and destruction of evidence (the wagons to begin with) that it is not all impossible that the islamists didn't do it. |

In 1970 at the Army War College, Guiffrida outlined his plan for martial law in case of a national uprising by black militants. The paper advocated the roundup and transfer to "assembly centers or relocation camps" of at least 21 million "American Negroes."
I'm certainly no advocate of internment camps, but it took the 101st Airborne Division to finally settle things down in Chicago, and there were other cities on fire during that sad period in our history as well, Washington D.C. for one. Extreme events can call for extreme measures. |

Thank you, Besoeker. I,m nit sure why hobbit is an insult, though. In both The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy the quests, and therefore the war of good against evil, could not have succeeded without the loyalty, common sense, and cleverness of the humble, unsophisticated little countrified hobbits, who found ways when their glamourous, talented, and aristocratic superiors were incapable of resolving things. Reminds me of the peasant Flems vs. the aristocratic Walloons in Belgium, actually. |

The big difference is "over there" vs. "here". I've no problem with the US government oppressing the heathen outside of the US.
But if they are spending their time voyeuristically gazing at school children in the playground down the street, they are not only being oppressive, but they are wasting intelligence resources and a lot of money being weird, paranoid and stupid.
And there are a lot if freaks in government. For example, Louis O. Giuffrida, the first director of FEMA under Reagan.
In 1970 at the Army War College, Guiffrida outlined his plan for martial law in case of a national uprising by black militants. The paper advocated the roundup and transfer to assembly centers or relocation camps of at least 21 million American Negroes.
And he still became head of a major national agency, after being approved by the US senate? WTF?
His associate director at FEMA was John R. Brinkerhoff, who understood where his boss was coming from. "The Posse Comitatus Act is not only irrelevant but also downright dangerous to the proper and effective use of military forces for domestic duties.
People like that should never, ever be in government, but many are. And the incredibly dangerous part is that they see no end to their intrusiveness. No matter what they are allowed to do, it is never enough, because they are obsessive-compulsives.
In the UK, the Labour government even created what it called "Family Intervention Projects", the idea being to install cameras in the homes of troublesome families so they could be under constant surveillance. And it had nothing to do about terrorism. Some 2,000 families got cameras in every room of their homes.
So what is safe enough? Will chip implants protect us from terrorists, here at home? Applied Digital Solutions (aka "Evil Incorporated") thinks so. It wants to start with chip implants for all prisoners in the US, and later for those suspected of crimes, to help police keep tabs on them.
Is groping small children at airports, because god forbid we racially or religiously profile Muslims, because that would be "intrusive" or something?
This crap has to end. It does not make us safer, it costs a fortune, and it is not directed at the people who threaten us. It is madness. |

Zero interest in "world peace", whatever that means. As long as the barbarians slaughter each other, no problem, especially if profits are to be made in the process.
Barbarians to the east of China were called "Dongyi", those to the west were called "Xirong", those to the south were called "Nanman", and those to the north were called "Beidi". However, despite the conventional translation of such terms as 'barbarian', in fact it is possible to translate such terms simply as 'outsider' or 'stranger', with far less offensive cultural connotations, as the needs for diplomacy dictated.
However, as places such as Korean peninsula and Japan became sinicized by adopting Han culture, they were eventually regarded as a part of the 'cultured' Sinosphere. Eventually, the Chinese decided that they had to have a buffer zone of such nations to protect them from the far more powerful barbarians in the rest of the world.
This created the paradox that truly offensive nations would be their "friends and allies" if they adhered to "the Chinese way"; yet friendly and peaceful nations that did not use "the Chinese way" were (and are still) looked at with suspicion and animosity. |

They only way to turn this b.s. around is to use the media and the law to utterly humiliate and shame such people. Not for their benefit, but to let others know that what they did was not for honor.
For example, put this guy in stocks, literally, and encourage people to throw dung at him, and splash all over the papers how he is a sub-human animal, who should be denied entrance to mosques. And to uplift his dead daughters at the same time as virtuous, beautiful and honorable, who would have been exemplary wives and mothers, etc.
Newspapers are surprisingly adept at this, and would take to it very quickly. |

This was because the communist terrorists of the RAF nee Baader-Meinhof Brigade were being trained, armed and supported by adjacent countries in the Warsaw Pact as part of the Cold War.
And though their acts were called "terrorist", in truth they were directed mostly against NATO military and political targets, not the civilian targets preferred by Islamist terrorists.
Were those nations Islamic, the situation in western Europe would be as it is in Afghanistan today, with endless numbers of madrassa trained Islamist terrorists crossing the border with the sole intent of destabilizing those nations and slaughtering innocent civilians, no matter whether they were non-Muslim or Muslim.
It is much harder to create chaos in western Europe when support for terrorism must travel from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and northern Africa. And European authorities have no problem at all in racially and religiously profiling Muslims, which is far easier than trying to detect radicals who look and act like the majority.
The bottom line is that efforts at Islamist terror in Europe are far less competent than the RAF, and for all their willingness to be terrorists, barbarity just cannot win unless civilization is entirely destroyed. If they coexist for any length of time, barbarity loses, because even an illiterate goat herder, now living in a welfare apartment, can tell it is inferior to civilization. |

Years from now, how Khadaffy died will make interesting reading...as , say, how Mussolini died?
Mussolini hid in the back of a retreating German truck but was stopped at a guerilla road block headed North and the Germans rather than fight their way through, bargained Il Duce for safe passage through the Alps. Then the Duc was told that he was being rescued and to come quietly...and they took him and about fifteen other people with good old Italian names like his mistress Nancy Pelosi and shot them with Mark 24 machine pistols in a field, along with Marcello the Pimp ( Nancy Pelosi's brother) . After that they were hanged upside down by their heels from a Filling Station marquee in Milan.
Kadaffy and several of his personal entourage will wind up the same way and then ( we can leave out the slaughter house meathook parts and the butcher's tools and the missing fingers for the faint of heart ).....it will make interesting reading, dont you think? |

So, Iran is betting on the Assad regime riding out this little problem with the Syrian people. That's nice. They seem to believe that shooting your own citizens is an acceptable policy....how many have been whacked so far???...about 1,500 conservatively. Bet you it's double that easy.
I have always been a believer in what you admit being about ten percent ( maybe) of what the actual numbers actually are. Ben Franklin did admit six illegitimate children sort of thing.
But Iran is cool with jail, beatings and some extra-judicial popping the loudmouths. But why not, they ARE Moslems. We have to be "understanding" of their cultural and religious values since its PC to be tolerant of the Religion of Peace. As nancy pelosi sez who are we to judge where ( and to whom ) you do the hershey highway?
And we must not forget that Turkey and Iran will always co-operate on the TRULY essential things like hating the Jewzz. So, not to worry, Iran and Turkey will still be friends in the long run. The only thing I have my doubts about is precisely HOW Assad is going to get all the worms back in his personal can.
Realistically, I think that bucket of worms isnt going to get better. I think Assad is not going to HAVE any long run. Too many worms. Iran has bet on the loser. But, hey, Iran is following its heart.
Jails, the knout, and a Makarov to the temple if you dont shut. up.
Meanwhile, back in Egypt no one collects the garbage ( and there is a LOT of garbage to collect)...and the Egyptian Army still have their private club hotels and exclusive swimming pools. The Egyptian people are suckers and they are nowhere near being "free." But then, it is a Moslem country and has Moslem values. And I dont live there, so its their problem, not mine.
In America we have an incompetent lefty bozo with the backing of all the Al Sharptons and Dwayne and Studley and we sign kite checks and bend over a lot. Spit on a serviceman and go to college and maybe someday you can be like John Kerry and salute your OWN flag. The Whatever Toots your Floot flag, it has a donkey on it. |

> "But if it did, would it be Islam?"
In Europe *lots* more Islamic terrorism would be needed for it to reach the level reached by separatist (ETA, IRA) or leftist (e.g. Red
Brigades, 17th November) terrorist groups.
Obviously the situation is different in countries like Pakistan. But in the European context, Islamic terrorism was never the *main* form of terrorism. |

.....terrorism has nothing to do with any particular religion or belief. The EU and its member states have always rejected violence regardless of the motivation - be it right wing or left wing bad boy, separatist or religiously motivated terrorism," it added.
Appears to be a slight contradiction in the above. Only slight mind you.

Still, questions remain about whether it will be able to handle the increased duties as foreign troops leave.
Some may possibly have "questions," but I've not met anyone in theater that does. The conversion to full-time Taliban will be quick and painless. |

Clearly highlights the basis of the problem with the "Afican Union" which in fact is not "African" at all, but rather Arab. Countries like Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and the Sudan are from the east, not the south. Their culture, languages, history, race, and religion are Arab and have an orientation towards the Med and Southern Europe. True Africa can only be sub-Saharan. The AU and it's predessor the odious OAU are little more than terrorist organizations. |

The massive foreign aid budget that Congress approved for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan last week should help Mubashir and many others see the error of their ways. Allan be praised. |

This is especially troubling that though passed as anti-terrorism legislation, it is used almost exclusively against American citizens, and not in the pursuit of any known crime, but what amounts to just for the sake of doing it.
As such, it is nothing *but* abuse of the 4th Amendment. It has no legitimate purpose whatsoever. |

And while a 'sharp weapon' was recovered, that does leave one to wonder if their are still unaccounted for 'round of bullets' awaiting discovery???? |

"Senior Russian government officials have warned us that they will respond asymmetrically if legislation passes," the document stated. "Their argument is that we cannot expect them to be our partner in supporting sanctions against countries like Iran, North Korea, and Libya, and sanction them at the same time. Russian officials have said that other areas of bilateral cooperation, including on transit Afghanistan, could be jeopardized if this legislation passes."
