Thousands of Danes sign petition to buy California from U.S.

It’s a bad deal for Denmark, given they’d pick up all of California’s debt, illegals, and dysfunctional culture, but at this point I’d be open to persuasion.

[KTLA] In response to President Donald Trump’s continued musing about the U.S. acquiring Greenland from Denmark, Danish citizens have launched their own effort to purchase America’s most economically prosperous state.

An online petition seeking the “Denmarkification” of California has seemingly garnered nearly 200,000 signatures, with a pitch to Danish citizens that purchasing the Golden State would provide them with more sunshine, dominance in the tech industry, limitless avocado toast and easy access to Disneyland — which organizers say would be renamed to honor fairytale author and poet Hans Christian Andersen.

“Have you ever looked at a map and thought, ‘You know what Denmark needs? More sunshine, palm trees, and roller skates.’ Well, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make that dream a reality,” petition organizers write on the online page.

#8 Actually a commentator on Insty pointed out that, as amusing as this is, we should remember all the resources that reside in CA. A better approach is to revoke their statehood for failure to provide a republic form of government and revert them to territory status.

Ya know, someone good at making deals could probably arrange a multi-party swap. Denmark buys California. They unload Greenland into its own independent country which signs a CoFA with the U.S.

Canada's Alberta and Saskatchewan become part of the United States of America and we drop the tariff on poutine.

Losing the provinces is a net gain for Canada because what they lose in territory, they make up in virtue. The Canadian west is about farming, mining, and oil and gas. While these activities power civilization, they are also extractive and oppressive and polluting and generally awful. Politically, they are more conservative than Ontario and Quebec, so the current government gets a lock on power and more virtue signaling than you can shake a hockey stick at.

In addition, Justin Trudeau becomes King and their national language is French. It's a win-win for everyone!
