During the interview, Bream questioned Walz's record as governor, citing a Wall Street Journal article that highlighted his decision to sign legislation in Minnesota allowing illegal immigrants colonists to apply for driver's licenses, qualify for free tuition at universities, and enroll in Minnesota's free healthcare program for low-income residents. Bream asked Walz whether these programs incentivize illegal immigration and why legal residents should bear the cost of these services through their taxes.
Walz first deflected the question, instead emphasizing Minnesota's status as a top business state and the safety of its roads. He then went on to claim that Harris has policies that will help the current problems occurring on the southern border.
Walz Defends Drivers Licenses, Free Tuition, Health Care for Illegal Immigrants -- We Have 'Safest Roads'
[Breitbart] Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) said on this week’s Fox News Sunday broadcast that giving immigrants illegally in Minnesota drivers licenses, free tuition and health care has meant safe roads.
| Not true, actually, but as long as he is running for VP he has to say so. Perhaps if he’d made sure that all his state’s illegals were given all their vaccines, at least they wouldn’t be infecting the native population, nor costing so much in health care, but that's a different question. |
Host Shannon Bream said, “The Wall Street Journal says this after you were chosen to join the ticket: ‘As the Democratic Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz signed into law initiatives allowing immigrants in the country illegally to apply for drivers licenses, qualify for free tuition at state universities, and enroll in the state’s free healthcare program for low-income residents.’ Are those not magnets that draw people here, many times on dangerous journeys for themselves, and why should your taxpayers in Minnesota or across the States pay for those programs?”
Walz said, “That’s not the vice president’s position but I will say this: Minnesota ranks as a top five business state, we rank as a top three state for children living, and we are the top state for healthcare access. I would also add this, we have some of the safest roads. The vice president has made it clear she has policies that make a difference. Her border policies are the most strongest and fairest we have seen.”
