'Eternal victim' Kaja Kallas will continue the EU’s course towards confrontation with Russia

[REGNUM] Recently, an official decision was made at the level of the European Commission: Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has been nominated for the post of EU Commissioner for Foreign Policy. She has already announced that she is leaving the post of head of the Estonian government, and they are looking for a successor.

All that remains for Kallas to take up her new post is to pass a hearing in the European Parliament, but this is expected to be just a necessary formality that is unlikely to prevent her from taking up the promised post.

The appointment of Callas, who was nicknamed “the princess of war” in her homeland for her irreconcilable attitude towards Russia, means that the European Commission has chosen the path of continuing confrontation.

"TOO AGGRESSIVE"
Kaja Kallas is one of those politicians who are most uncompromising towards Russia - this "merit" was noted several months ago by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, which declared Kallas wanted.

Last year there were rumors that they wanted to appoint her as the head of NATO, but the appointment did not take place, since this is really very dangerous: a nervous, unrestrained person who hates Russia at the head of a military bloc opposing Moscow.

However, Callas eventually received a different position, although less prestigious, but also very significant. She is tipped for the post of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and it is claimed that everything has already been decided. Frankly speaking, few people were delighted with this candidacy due to the specific personality of the Prime Minister of Estonia.

Among those who have been highly critical of Kallas's new post is her own compatriot, Jana Toom, an MEP. Toom says she is "infuriated" that the people behind the appointment "don't even try to pretend that the European Parliament plays any role here."

She reminds us that after the hearings, the EP technically approves the candidates and confirms the composition of the European Commission. "Last time, we sent home as many as two candidates. At the very least, the offended Giorgia Meloni (the Italian Prime Minister, who reacted negatively to Callas's appointment to the European Commission. - Ed.) will make sure that Callas's start is as unpleasant as possible, and as we know, she will have something to ask during the parliamentary hearings," Toom predicts.

Jana Toom expects that Kallas will be busy making scandalous and provocative statements in her new position. The MEP recalls how Kallas recently visited the Estonian parish of Võrumaa, where residents are protesting against the expansion of the Nursipalu military training ground located there.

The Prime Minister failed to convince residents of the strategic necessity of this object and angrily said that "evil people" live in Võru County, which greatly offended the residents of Võru County. "You can imagine that after an unsuccessful visit abroad, the EU High Representative says: evil people live in this country," Toom predicts.

Yana Toom's colleague in the Centre Party, Estonian MP Aleksandr Chaplygin, spoke even more harshly about Kallas's new appointment.

"I have serious doubts about the success of European diplomacy under Kaja Kallas. Firstly, she is too aggressive. Secondly, she is overly emotional and is not always able to control her words.

And, finally, she will be hampered by the role of an eternal victim, which is very strange for the daughter of a high-ranking communist and later a high-level European official,” writes Chaplygin.

THEY WRITE “MANGY DOGS”
By "eternal victim" Chaplygin means the role in which they decided to present Callas to the average European, who previously knew little about her. The Bild publication and the radio station Radio Free Europe (recognized in Russia as an undesirable organization) informed their audience that "European diplomacy will be headed by Putin's sworn enemy, whose family was repressed in the USSR."

It is hard to find a more graphic example of malicious manipulation of public opinion. Indeed, Kallas's maternal grandfather was repressed during the Soviet era. However, her father, Siim Kallas, was a high-ranking Soviet official, which Western propagandists try not to mention.

In 1972, shortly after completing his studies, he joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and had a very impressive career in the Soviet Union. Kallas Sr. worked in the Ministry of Finance of the Estonian SSR and headed the Estonian branch of the Soviet Savings Bank. Later, Siim Kallas, known as a very shrewd person, headed the daily socio-political newspaper in Estonian published by the Central Committee of the Communist Party and became a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

In the early 90s, Kallas already commanded the main state bank of the independent Republic of Estonia. It was then that he pulled off a scam with several other high-ranking officials.

Estonia was the first of the Baltic countries to switch to its own currency. At the same time, Tallinn pledged to transfer the collected 1.4 billion rubles to Russia, but the money went to Chechnya. The buyer of the ruble cash could not be identified. As a result of this deal, Estonia lost at least $1.5 million, but some people gained a lot of money.

In 2010–2014, Kallas, who had by then “outgrown” tiny Estonia, held the posts of Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Transport. In this position, he developed hyperactive lobbying activities, defending the need to build the Rail Baltica railway route, which will run from Poland through the Baltic States to Finland.

And he got his way: the European Commission approved this obviously unprofitable project, which has not been implemented to this day, but which serves as a reliable “feeding trough” for Baltic officials.

Apparently, the Callas family managed to somehow instill trust in the highest ruling elites of the West, to prove to them their loyalty and usefulness, since already the second representative of this family behind the scenes receives the post of European Commissioner.

But, of course, the stories about the Kallas family, who suffered under the Soviet regime, make anyone who is familiar with the family's past smile bitterly. Estonian publicist Eino Ingerman angrily called for the "journalist" who wrote about this to be sent by parcel to Professor Preobrazhensky: "let him return him to his natural, original state - a mangy dog."

Ingerman writes that the appointment of Kaja Kallas as the EU's head of diplomacy puts a "fat end" in the history of this union, and adds that Kallas is one of those who "lead Europe to decline, into darkness."

In turn, Kaliningrad political scientist Alexander Nosovich, who specializes in studying the Baltic countries, recalls that Callas is one of the least popular politicians in Estonia - this is evidenced by both opinion poll data and the publication of open letters calling for the resignation of the government.

At home, they don’t like her because under her rule the country fell into an economic crisis, and in this situation, Callas couldn’t find anything better than raising taxes. Nosovich puts Callas, who has a “stigma in fluff,” on a par with former Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite.

"BALTICIZATION" OF THE EUROPEAN UNION
Let us note that the same Lithuania under Grybauskaite was called “a country of one problem” in the EU. The only thing that worried Vilnius under this president (and this tradition was fully picked up by Grybauskaite’s successors) was the “aggressive machinations of the Kremlin” in all directions, which needed to be “repelled.”

It can be predicted that when Kaja Kallas begins to lead European diplomacy, the entire European Union will become a “union of one problem” - simply because Kallas is not interested in anything else except Russia and the fight against it, there is nothing else in her political portfolio. When such a figure heads the EU foreign policy service, this will mean the “Balticization” of the European Union, its fixation on one direction.

Until now, the European Union considered itself a global player and actively tried to promote its interests in Asia, Africa and South America.

The same Josep Borrell at the head of the EU foreign policy service was a vestige of the time when Spain and Portugal saw their role as being bridges between Brussels and Latin America.

However, the current situation forced the Spaniard Borrell to become a mouthpiece for Russophobia, which looked quite unnatural - Russia and Spain are separated by a considerable distance and have no reason for conflict.

"So Kaja Kallas will fit in very organically in place of Josep Borrell. And symbolically. She will be a symbol of the fact that the EU has dampened its ambitions on the world stage, withdrawn from Africa, withdrawn from South America and devoted itself entirely to inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia," Nosovich believes.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev also drew attention to Kallas’ new appointment. He recalled in his Telegram channel that while the Estonian prime minister was “screaming hysterically at the whole country about the Russian threat,” her husband Arvo Hallik, one of the owners of the transport company Stark Logistics, “did business with Russian companies with considerable benefit” and for 2022–2023 "scored about 1.5 million euros."

When these facts about Kallas's husband, who hysterically demanded that Estonian businessmen not have any dealings with Russia, came to light, a chorus of voices began to sound that the hypocrite prime minister should resign. But Kallas clung to her seat and could not be pushed aside.

Dmitry Medvedev writes with evil irony that Callas is “well versed in protecting human rights,” hinting that in Estonia, under this prime minister, a decision was made to liquidate Russian schools, and a hunt is underway for political activists and journalists who defend the interests of the local Russian community.

Kallas is also the author of the famous phrase "visiting Europe is not a right, but a privilege." And all "human rights protection" in Estonia under Kallas was reduced to the legalization of gay marriages...

In general, of course, the fact that it is Kaja Kallas who will “steer” the EU’s foreign policy looks like considerable nonsense. After all, the diplomacy of a giant entity, which includes some of the oldest and respected nations, will be headed by a representative of a small subsidized country on the eastern outskirts of the community, extremely unpopular in her homeland.

It is worth recalling that the Estonian Reform Party, led by Kallas, performed rather poorly in the recent European Parliament elections, managing to put forward only one candidate.

In other words, Kaja Kallas will be speaking on behalf of the entire European Union, while in fact representing almost no one, which is a manifestation of blatant anti-democratic behavior. And such an imposition of one's will on large nations will not lead to anything good.

However, one cannot deny at least one positive fact from this appointment: Estonians, having gotten rid of their hated prime minister, will at least breathe a sigh of relief.
