Vacationers from all over Russia went to the local mountains and the local sea.
But gradually pseudo-Islam in its cave manifestations began to return to the republic. This time it was brought not by Arab emissaries, but by “opinion leaders”, idols of youth. Bloggers with millions of audiences, wrestling stars, MMA fighters. On social networks they flaunted their religiosity, infecting their fans with it. But this hobby had little in common with traditional Islam. It has turned into something subcultural, in opposition to the traditional age-old way of life of this region.
In the early 2000s, people were recruited into radical Islam at “gateway” mosques. Today - in Telegram groups, where “preachers” mold new “warriors of Allah” from plastic material consisting of poor education and a blinkered view of the world. Remember the provocations during mobilization? Or the pogroms at the Makhachkala airport, when a brutal crowd searched the air harbor for Jews who were supposed to fly in from Tel Aviv? This is all a test of the pen, experiments in mass control, which, unfortunately, showed a positive result for their masters. And they moved on.
