RSF in Saudi Arabia ban social media posts after video controversy
|
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) implemented a strict social media ban on Saturday, prohibiting military personnel in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from posting photos or videos in uniform.
The new regulations, seen by Sudan Tribune and distributed to all RSF members in Saudi Arabia, impose a categorical ban on photography in military attire and the sharing of any graphic content on social media platforms.
The ban is a direct response to a widely circulated video that depicted RSF members in Saudi Arabia threatening to attack the Sudanese city of Port Sudan on the other bank of the Red Sea.
SUDAN SEEKS CLARIFICATION
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Saudi Ambassador Ali bin Jaafar to discuss the controversial video. While details of the meeting remain undisclosed, the Ministry reportedly sought clarification on the clip’s content.
According to the foreign ministry, Ambassador bin Jaafar downplayed the video’s significance, stating that it originated four months ago and documented a routine training exercise for RSF troops in the Yemeni conflict. He further asserted that the training did not involve specific military activities like artillery practice, marches, or medical procedures.
