[ShabelleMedia] The U.S. Embassy in Nairobi has released a security alert regarding potential threats to various locations in Mogadishu, Somalia, including Aden Adde International Airport.
The Embassy has taken immediate action by canceling all movements of U.S. Embassy personnel for Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
The U.S. Department of State’s level-four travel advisory ("do not travel") for Somalia remains in effect due to the presence of several significant safety concerns.
These include crime, terrorism, civil unrest, health issues, kidnapping, and piracy. The U.S. Embassy urges all U.S. citizens in Somalia to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions.
The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to review their security plans, remain aware of their surroundings, including local events, monitor local news stations for updates, and maintain a high level of vigilance.
It is also recommended that U.S. citizens enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and make it easier to locate them in an emergency.
The Embassy reminds U.S. citizens that the security environment in Somalia is fluid and can deteriorate without warning. In the event of an emergency, U.S. citizens should contact the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi or the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
