Boeing taxiing for takeoff collides with another plane in Chicago
[Yahoo - Independent] An All Nippon Airways (ANA) flight was taxiing for departure when its left winglet struck the stabilizer of a Delta Airlines flight, a spokesperson from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement to The Independent. No injuries were reported, and the incident occurred in an area "not under air traffic control,"

the spokesperson said.
Thank you, FAA spokesperson, who did not mention (obscured?) the fact that the same controllers who work Ground control (under whose aegis the subject aircraft were operating) are routinely rotated through Ground and Air [Traffic] many times during their shifts. Ground and ATC work in the same cab, while Departure is typically relegated to "the basement."

I'd like a little more data regarding the controller who was working the aircraft during the gate operation.

#5 There isn't an inch of the areas between the gates, taxiways and runways that isn't 'controlled' by someone.

The new outer taxiway and runway configurations at O'hare are better than they used to be, although the taxiways near the gate areas are still a clusterf*ck.

#6 Same day this happened, Mrs. Ret. and I were departing Kalamazoo, Mi, in about 25 degree weather. Our plane, a CRJ had sat on the ramp all night and got cold-soaked. As a result, the cabin door would not close. American Eagle ground crew used a huffer’s exhaust to warm it up so it could be closed(took 45 minutes and 3 people. Cabin steward’s seat was directly adjacent to it; with the Boeing door plug fiasco fresh in my head, i asked Spousal and Daughter Units to keep the seat belts low and tight.
Watching this circle jerk, I half expected Clyde Clutchrider (A&P certified) to appear with a Harbor Freight comealong to ‘encourage’ the door to close.
We werent on the news so must have made it.
