Confederate memorial in Arlington Cemetery is REMOVED after judge lifts restraining order that barred it from being taken down

US District Judge Rossie Alston issued a temporary injunction Monday after receiving an urgent phone call saying that gravesites were being desecrated

But he toured the site and saw it being treated respectfully and allowed for the Confederate memorial to be removed on Tuesday

Officials began removing the structure on Wednesday in front of a handful of onlookers and a crane was used to lift the top of the Confederate memorial

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, who disagrees with the decision to remove the memorial, made arrangements for it to be moved to land owned by the Virginia Military Institute at New Market Battlefield State Historical Park in the Shenandoah Valley.

A reasonable choice, since the sculptor, Moses Ezekiel, was their first Jewish cadet and rose to sergeant in the battalion they sent to fight for the Confederacy in the Civil War.

Abraham Lincoln was elected as the 16th president of the United States in 1860, and later inaugurated in 1861. His election was a sectional victory, winning none of the southern states. This was the final straw for many Southerners, as they feared that his presidency would result in the end of their way of life.

On December 20, 1860, South Carolina declared their secession from the United States of America. Within the next six months, ten other southern states would secede from the Union:

Mississippi - January 9, 1861
Florida - January 10, 1861
Alabama - January 11, 1861
Georgia - January 19, 1861
Louisiana - January 26, 1861
Texas - February 1, 1861
**April 12, 1861, the Civil War begins with the attack of Fort Sumter.**

It was some nameless, faceless bureaucrat, who would only make her name known if she could be sure that the New York Times would write wonderful things about her. Now that that hasn't happened, and now that there is pushback, the name will be buried deep in the bureaucratic muck and mire.

This is too obscure a place, too inside the beltway, to warrant such hatred on the national stage. This is meant to remedy a perceived insult to someone who was forced to be proximate to it during ceremonial events at a place full of dead people they secretly dispise!

#12 i visited Shiloh several times. Ky brother vs brother. Once pictured myself in a charge on the hornets nest and throwing myself in a depression to escape gunfire. no hero I. The war was not necessary. Slavery is wrong and would have ended on economic grounds had South Carolina not fired on Ft Sumter.

#13 ...but the southern 'elites' had no problem sending their brethren to death for their power and social standing just like ours today for their causes. The poor line doggies fought for their tribe. The same tribes you see in the fall on Saturday or Sunday for their 'teams'.
