Now the meeting with Biden is taking place exactly one year before the election. This is an opportunity for the Chinese leader to take the temperature in American politics and clarify for himself where the United States will go. Much ado about nothing - this classic American phrase can be used to evaluate the outcome of the negotiations, interest in which has been fueled for so long.
Biden's statement following the negotiations with another insult to the Chinese leader, whom he again called a “dictator,” only personifies the actual failure of the negotiations. A successful summit certainly would not have ended on such a scandalous note.
The trend towards increased confrontation has not gone away - it will continue. The January elections in Taiwan will clearly end in a major international crisis. America will then plunge into its electoral cycle, which could end with a possible victory for Republicans and hardline opponents of China.
So Xi Jinping’s current visit to the United States may well end up being his last.
