General Motors lays off 2,000 workers at Kansas assembly plant after workers at facility in Detroit went on strike because 'there is no work' - as UAW president threatens that MORE people will walk off the job by Friday if demands are not met
The minimum wage is zero.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • General Motors announced 2,000 layoffs and closed their Kansas plant on Wednesday blaming the impact of a corresponding strike in Detroit

  • Job cuts were also announced by Stellantis, the maker of Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge, and by Ford last week

  • The United Auto Workers Union began a historic labor strike on Friday after there demands of a 40 percent pay rise and a four-day week were not met

#1 Since many locations depend on each other for items and/or the need generated to produce them. Watch the UNION Unemployment #'s and negative economical trickle down affect of this poorly timed UNION stunt has on other union and non-union locations.

Hell the Union strike might even end up saving the Auto Makers $$ Millions in the long run.

I say poorly timed, given many dealer lots are loaded with unsold overpriced 2023 and some 2022 vehicles.

#2 We've been hearing about "channel stuffing" for years. Dealers being forced to take delivery of vehicles they know they won't be able to sell because nobody wants the overpriced things. The car lot is full, but do they have the model with the options you want? Probably not.

The "industry" will moan that the strike is bad for them and their future, but I'm sure lots of people in management see it as a time to whittle those existing inventories and close some excess capacity while putting the blame on the union.

Not that some of that blame doesn't belong there.

#3 Deceptive newspaper ads. Dealer has ad for lower cost vehicle but only stocks a couple at the beginning of the month ...you show up and they 'hard sell' you for a more expensive model because they (quote) don't have any left (un-quote).
