Minneapolis is the first major American city to allow the Muslim call to prayer, or adhan, to be broadcast over loudspeakers five times a day, year-round

It follows a unanimous vote by the city council to amend the city's noise ordinance after some morning and evening calls were previously prevented

Three of 13 members of the council, Aisha Chughtai, Jeremiah Ellison and Jamal Osman, identify as Muslim

The move is seen as a victory for the city's burgeoning population of East African immigrants,
