She has represented east Houston in Congress since 2019, before that collecting a lot of firsts in the political arena, in what would otherwise be the typical career path of lawyer to local judge to state legislator to US Congress. She was one of the seven House Democrats tapped in 2020 to present the impeachment case against President Trump in the Senate.
