San Francisco shuts down $22M open-air drugs market after it referred less than 1% for treatment - or just 18 addicts out of 23,000 it welcomed in its first four months

After less than a year, San Francisco's $22 million open-air drug market has closed to the public following months of ridicule

The market, located in the city's Tenderloin district, referred just 18 people in the first four months of it opening out of more than 23,000 visitors

One official said the site was never meant to be permanent and closed in part due to the end of its $75,000 a month lease

While some have pointed out the center offered resources to drug addicts, others have described it as a massive waste of taxpayer money

City officials have yet to announce any new plans for similar sites

#2 They are probably just moving it to one of the looted Target locations that is now vacant. It rains too much in the Bay Area for open air drug vending to be truly viable.
