Rep. Hakeem Jeffries made history Wednesday by being voted the first-ever black lawmaker to serve as a party leader

He will take over as House Democratic Leader in January as the longest-serving Speaker Nancy Pelosi steps aside from her leadership role

Vote was unanimous and Jeffries faced no challengers

New Democratic leadership will also include Rep. Katherine Clark, 59, as the party's whip and and Rep. Pete Aguilar, 43, as caucus chairman
