  • Despite city shelters being at capacity, Mayor Eric Adams' 'tent city' on Randall's Island remains mostly empty

  • The National Guard reservists will assist with day-to-day operations such as food distribution, but may also be trained in homelessness services

  • The mayor recently declared a state of emergency over the migrant crisis and pledged over $1 billion to the issue
    And where, pray tell, is New York City to find another billion for its strained budget in these troubled times?
  • The Department of Homeless Services in the city reported a new occupancy record this month as a whopping 62,174 people are living in shelters

  • Adams noted that every borough would be 'impacted' by the crisis during a news conference earlier this month
