Nevada is rich in lithium and has attracted many investors and companies looking to extract the soft metal used in electric car batteries

Data shows that there have been more than more than 17,000 placer claims on lithium sites in Nevada

Three-quarters of the sites sit on tribal land, including Thacker Pass that is set to be mined being one of them

In 1865, Native Americans were killed at the site by government officials

Locals fear their ancestral homelands will be turned 'into a sacrifice zone for electric car batteries

I understood the ore would be mined in Nevada, shipped to China for refining, then shipped back for manufacturing, which may be less toxic.
