National Archives head emails staff that it's not an anti-Trump agency
[Washington Examiner] The head of the National Archives and Records Administration rejected the notion that the agency is plotting against former President Donald Trump in an email sent to staff members last week.

Debra Steidel Wall, NARA's acting archivist, told staff members that in the wake of actions taken by the agency in seeking Trump's presidential records, NARA has received messages from the public accusing the National Archives of being anti-Trump or congratulating the agency for "bringing him down," and that "neither is accurate or welcome." The email was reportedly sent by Wall on Aug. 24 and first obtained by the Washington Post.

"The National Archives has been the focus of intense scrutiny for months, this week especially, with many people ascribing political motivation to our actions," Wall wrote in the email.

"NARA has received messages from the public accusing us of corruption and conspiring against the former president, or congratulating NARA for ’bringing him down,’" she continued. "Neither is accurate or welcome."

The discovery of over 700 pages of classified material mixed with other documents in 15 boxes of presidential records collected by the National Archives from Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in January led the agency to believe that more sensitive records could still be in Trump's possession in Palm Beach, Florida.

After the January discovery, the Justice Department opened an investigation into Trump's handling of presidential records and the DOJ seized another batch of documents with sensitive national security information stashed in the basement of Mar-a-Lago. In August, FBI agents searched the resort and reportedly recovered 26 boxes of material.

NARA's referral of the matter to the DOJ, and the subsequent FBI raid of Trump's home, ignited a political firestorm. Wall told staff in her email, however, that the agency is "fiercely non-political" and an "honest broker" simply seeking to preserve government records.

#1 St. Louis, July 12, 1973: A Disaster with Long-Lasting Repercussions

In 1973 a devastating fire in the National Personnel Records Center destroyed about 17 million military personnel files. A loss with long-lasting repercussions, it affects our understanding and knowledge of many individual WWII stories.

#3 So Debra Steidel Wall who assumed office May 1, 2022 and is the "ACTING" National Archives head wanted to be on "Record" as officially saying it is NOT an anti-Trump agency.

BTW: Her replacement is the nominee Colleen Joy Shogan who, surprise!!! was born and raised in Greater Pittsburgh and donates $$$$ to the DNC according to OPENSECRETS.ORG

But, as the old saying goes.

Actions speak louder than words.

#4 Hey B, I've been in the official situation requesting the records of a reactivated servicmember and the NPRC said they were lost in the fire. Problem was that his records were sent after the fire. They just didn't want to do the work they existed for. It had degenerated into a workfare program for the low skilled in the area.

#5 At the point any document hits the national archives, it should be viewable by any taxpaying American without an appointment, forms or legal hoops to jump through. And by that standard, it should not matter who else has a copy stored wherever.

#6 Ref #4: I was involved peripherally in a CID Deep Dive and 15-6 investigation, on a fellow ultimately convicted of USG Credit Card abuse. Unfortunately for him, Paris honeymoon airfare and hotel expenditures were not classified as official gov't binnes. In the process, his microfiche disclosed a "completed Ranger training" entry and certificate (less TAB). He was wearing the TAB in his last 3 pro-board fotos. ORB did not match the official paper. Fort Benning confirmed non-grad status. Neither CID or his chain of commander were amused.

You never know what you will find in those records.

#7 Always, always keep paper copies of things you want to include in official records. It never fails to amaze me the confidence we all place in MILPERCEN or ARPERCEN or HQ/CMC records, especially if you actually visited the bowels of those places and spent a little time with some of the denizens in their dwelling cubes. The expression "just wed or near dead" comes to mind for many.
