Medals of Honor for soldiers who perpetrated Wounded Knee massacre may be rescinded

[NYPOST] Lawmakers took a step last week towards taking back the nation’s highest award for valor from Army troops who perpetrated one of the most infamous Native American massacres in U.S. history.The legislation to revoke the medals passed the House of Representatives as an amendment to the fiscal 2023 defense policy bill. Similar attempts have made it this far before, however, only to be stymied during compromises between the House and Senate versions of the bill.
That was one hundred thirty two years ago. All participants are equally dead. Will my Good Conduct medal be rescinded by Congress 132 years after I'm gone?
Some 20 soldiers received the Medal of Honor following the Dec. 29, 1890, massacre near Wounded Knee Creek, South Dakota, where troops from the 7th Cavalry and accompanying artillery units killed hundreds of Lakota men, women and kiddies.

The U.S. troops had nearly completed confiscating weapons from a Lakota encampment when a struggle with a reportedly deaf man sparked a chaotic one-sided firefight.

When the smoke cleared, dozens of cavalry troopers were maimed or killed by friendly fire — likely from their artillery — and hundreds of Lakota were dead.

#3 As a kid we played sand lot football and one of of the kids was American Indian. One or two kids could not tackle him. It took at least three kids to bring down, otherwise he dragged everyone hanging on to him across the goal line.

Pre-World War I Army Medals
The only medal that the War Department officially awarded during the Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, and Philippine Insurrection was the Medal of Honor.

However, between 1905 and 1919, the War Department authorized several campaign medals for U.S. Army service between 1861 and 1902.

The National Archives Building in Washington, DC (Archives 1), houses correspondence related to pre-World War I recipients of the Medal of Honor and recipients of Army campaign medals.

#10 The Medal of Honor in those days is not the same as it is today. As NoMoreBs pointed out, they did not have all the medals today, so people got the MOH for things that today would not even rate a Bronze Star. IIRC, everybody in one unit in the Civil War got the MOH simply for extending their enlistment.

Today, the MOH really means something. Look at Wikipedia and read the stories of MOH recipients, especially from WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, and later.

Of course Richard Byrd got the MOH just for his travels in Antarctica.

What a lovely thought, Aca Joe. The easiest way to start would be to shut down entire departments, like education and energy, but that requires an act of Congress. So does the removal of union protections. It can’t be done just by executive order.
