 File under: Mob Rule

#1 Time to place a lean against the property and 'do not proceed' order on any and all further building or modifications unless agreed to by both parties.

#2 ...It's hard to escape the conclusion that Oberlin's endgame is simply hoping that a miracle of some kind will happen, and this will all just somehow go away. I've also heard that the school may be dragging this out in the hopes that the Gibsons will simply have the decency to quit - but the money is high enough now, and the eventual outcome sure enough, that the plaintiff's attorneys aren't going to give in. In the end, the Gibsons may end up seeing a little bit less than half of that $40M, but it doesn't matter to them.

It's my understanding that they can't use their endowment, because alumni have made it quite clear that to do so will mean the end of any further donations. The college's insurance will pay it (or more likely, a chunk but not ALL) but after that, they well may be dropped, and rotsa ruck finding anybody who will pick them up after this.

The utter and complete disconnect between the school and the community that has existed for easily the last sixty-five years or so is also coming home to roost. The school and students have nothing but contempt for the community, and the community is quite tired of being considered as illiterate racist rednecks who exist mostly to be doormats for the elitist clowns who teach, administrate, and attend. The Gibsons are getting pretty much 100% support, and the school has almost none.

There is a phrase for this: "Town and gown..."

#4 I grew up in a southwestern (Oklahoma) small town that had a state 'land grant' university. At one period it charged the same tuition for 'Out of state" students so there was an influx of 'damn Yankee' middle class students sent there because it was cheaper. They had a certain degree of culture shock and dealt with it by by being rude and condescending to the 'hick locals' ... to this day I have a visceral response to a Bronx accent.

#5 There is nothing like the mix of condescension with having a drunken college kid vomit on your sidewalk. It gets old I am sure.

#6 At it's founding, Oberlin was an outstanding institution and even became an early powerhouse in college football. Everything the Left captures turns to shit by design.

#8 Lena Dunham - Famous Oberlin Alumni™:
While a student at Oberlin College, Dunham produced several independent short films and uploaded them to YouTube. Many of her early films dealt with themes of sexual enlightenment and were produced in a mumblecore filmmaking style, a dialog-heavy style in which young people talk about their personal relationships. In 2006, she produced Pressure, in which a girl and two friends talk about experiencing an orgasm for the first time, which makes Dunham's character feel pressured to do so as well.[34][35] "I didn't go to film school", Dunham explains. "Instead I went to liberal arts school and self-imposed a curriculum of creating tiny flawed video sketches, brief meditations on comic conundrums, and slapping them on the Internet."[36]

Another early film, entitled The Fountain, which depicted her in a bikini brushing her teeth in the public fountain at Oberlin College, went viral on YouTube.[37][38] "Her blithe willingness to disrobe without shame caused an outburst of censure from viewers," observed The New Yorker's Rebecca Mead.[18] Dunham was shocked by the backlash and decided to take the video down:

There were just pages of YouTube comments about how fat I was, or how not fat I was," Dunham said. "I didn't want you to Google me and the first thing you see is a debate about whether my breasts are misshapen."[18]

#9 ^ Is that an argument that the institution contributes to society, or diminishes it?

#15 the court judgement was $31.6M

the interest currently is over $4M.

more interest piles up each day.

Currently Oberlin has appealed to the Ohio Supreme Court. If the court refuses to hear the appeal, which is likely, Oberlin will have to pay up.

#16 Just end this. File a lien or several, get the sheriff to seize the college an all of its bank accounts, including the endowment funds. Pay off all judgements, interests, legal fees and sheriff expenses, among other costs. Then put the property up for sheriff sale.

This is not the time to be a nice guy, but be ruthless in collecting whats due!

Oberlin College brought this on themselves, there's no excuse period!
