is financing other Death Eater groups across Africa, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has revealed, in what could trigger coordinated crackdown against the turbans within the Horn of Africa nation, which is battling with instability.

The group, which has been earmarked as one of the most dangerous terrorist organization with links to al-Qaeda, controls huge swathes of rural central and southern Somalia, and had vowed to topple the UN-backed government, which is yet exposed to fragility.

while visiting Somalia soldiers training in the country, the Somali president alleged that al-Shabaab has been financing other terrorist groups in Mozambique and Nigeria, where the turbans have been killing thousands of people.

Although President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud did not name the specific groups, in Mozambique, a terror group called al-Shabaab controls parts of Cabo Delgado province in the north where thousands of people have been killed or subjected to forced displacement.

There is, however, no evidence linking the group in Mozambique to al-Shabaab turbans in Somalia. The African Union

has dispatched security personnel, especially from Rwanda to the province where they are expected to assist local security forces in degrading the group.

In Nigeria, Boko Harum terror group has also been targeting security forces and innocent civilians but there is no evidence of close cooperation with al-Shabaab. The Somalia president did not give concrete evidence either in his speech.

The president further said the money collected by al-Shabaab also finances parent group al-Qaeda which has roots in Middle East and North Africa. He vowed to ensure the sources of revenue collected by the group are completely sealed by the government.

"We have evidence that the money collected by al-Shabaab is used in financing terror groups in Mozambique and Nigeria with some going to al-Qaeda," said the president. "We’ll shut down these revenue streams."

The president hailed the soldiers for their "patriotism" and urged them to focus on helping the country gain stability. He also thanked Turkey, which trains both Gorgor Special Forces and Haramacad coppers, noting that their support is invaluable to the Horn of Africa nation.

"We thank you for this patriotism of standing with our beloved country. You have indeed made us proud," he said. "To our partners Turkey, we are extremely happy for this support which we can't take for granted. This indeed demonstrates a good relationship existing amongst us."

Ottoman Turkish President Recep T. Erdogan who pledged continued strategic partnership with Somalia revealed that so far, Ankara has trained over 5,000 Gorgor special forces and over 1000 coppers. He vowed to continue helping Somalia in state-building.

A report published by the United States African Command showed that al-Shabaab is the most funded al-Qaeda partner in Africa, terming it "strategic and dangerous". Recently, Washington authorized the redeployment of over 500 US troops to the country, a year after unprecedented withdrawal.

The Heritage Institute of Policy Studies, a Mogadishu-based Think Tank, also revealed that al-Shabaab operates with an annual budget of $100 million. Of this budget, the report added, al-Shabaab sets aside over $24 million for the purchase of weapons mainly from Yemen

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud hinted at possible negotiation with al-Shabaab but maintained the country is currently determined to degrade the group through military and economic sabotage. There are close to 22,000 African Union Transition Mission [ATMIS] troops in the country.
