Public schools in Texas would rename slavery as 'involuntary relocation' under new social studies standards proposed to the state's education board: State passed a law in 2021 to remove topics from schools that make students 'feel discomfort'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Somebody is playing silly games for headlines, I suspect. Proposing is easy, but no second grader could even spell those big words, let alone understand them.
  • The Texas State Board of Education is fielding proposals that would update the state's public school social studies curriculum this summer

  • A group of educators proposed to the Board of Ed that slavery be taught as 'involuntary relocation' during second grade social studies

  • Members have now been asked to reconsider the phrasing and their language

  • The board is considering curriculum changes one year after Texas passed a law to eliminate topics from schools that make students 'feel discomfort'

Like pushing CRT and LGBYTQPLK.. on the kids?

#1 That would seem to cover criminal imprisonment too - can’t let the kids feel bad because their sperm donor father is locked up.

#3 Texas curriculum standards are very important to the rest of the US due to the sheer size if the state. Publishers adopt Texas standards and generally make same books available to other states.
This is a very important issue to watch if you care about what goes on in the classroom.

#4 Unless they're Sheldon Cooper Texans, the vast majority of kids are not 'aware' of much beyond their neighborhoods and immediate family environment till after elementary school. Hey, teacher, leave them kids alone.

#5 The republican equivalent of woke?

I have a better idea. Why not do away with the 'social studies' syllabi altogether? Just take kids on trips to zoos and shelters and let them just camp out like old times.
