Handcuffed suspect breaks neck in police van after it comes to abrupt stop and cops drag him out after he says he can't move

Richard Cox, 36, was paralyzed after hitting his head in a New Haven police van following his arrest for possession of an illegal firearm

Police footage shows the moments Cox hit his head when the vehicle came to a sudden halt

Officers didn't believe Cox was unable to move and proceeded to drag him out of the van rather than waiting for medical professionals to arrive

Cox is currently fighting for his life at a local hospital and has undergone multiple surgeries

Attorney Ben Crump, who represented the families of George Floyd, Breanna Taylor, and Trayvon Martin, is a part of Cox's legal team

Richard Cox, 36, who was arrested on June 19, for possession of an illegal firearm, was being transported in a van without seatbelts to the New Haven Police Department when the vehicle came to a sudden stop - tossing Cox head first into the wall.
