Company Pushing For Multi-Billion Dollar High Speed Rail Project In Texas Owes More Than $600,000 In Property Taxes
[ZeroHedge] The company behind the plans for a multi-billion dollar bullet train project in Texas can't even seem to get out of the starting gate.

The company, Texas Central, is in the midst of seeking out a $12 billion federal loan for the project, but also happens to owe $623,000 in delinquent property taxes, according to a new report from the Houston Chronicle.

The company owes "at least" that amount, according to a brief filed with the Texas Supreme Court in an ongoing condemnation lawsuit by several counties where the train is supposed to run.

#1 Hot tip. In Texas, a project like this should be the exact opposite of its debacle counterpart in California. But it's not. It's basically the same. Grifters pushing a solution looking for a problem, with taxpayer money driving it and huge malfeasance and rake-offs along the way. Common denominator: the leftist dream of Trains™!

#2 The project was always supposed to be built without taxpayer funds and they are seeking a loan to get started.

Dallas-area press has been mostly positive, and Southwest Airlines is indifferent, unlike the 1991 effort. [inserts picture of a unicorn]

They've been delayed by covid; I wonder if they got any covid relief?

#3 Read a piece by an owner of a small rail line about the lack of need for these services. His point was, if people actually wanted these, there would be bus services already running these routes. There's no demand for the product.

There is nothing wrong with trains. Civilized countries have trains that work well. Countries that are run by grifters don't.

#5  The company "has been aggressively buying properties it knows it will need for the current route."

That was my first guess. A nice grift if it had worked.
