Manchin fumes as US buys 500,000 barrels of Russian oil a day amid Ukraine war

[Washington Examiner] Sen. Joe Manchin called on President Joe Biden to ramp up domestic energy production to curtail the United States's reliance on Russian oil and gas imports, accusing the White House of pushing "hypocritical" policies.

The West Virginia Democrat said in a statement late Monday that the U.S. importing about a half-million barrels of oil products from Russia a month poses a "clear and present danger to U.S. national security."

The "entire world is watching as Vladimir Putin uses energy as a weapon in an attempt to extort and coerce our European allies," said Manchin, who leads the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

Many Republicans have said in recent days that Russia's aggression vindicates the case for added U.S. production of fossil fuels, but it's unusual for a member of Biden's own party to make the same argument. Manchin, though, has long favored fossil fuel production and has been skeptical of his party's regulatory agenda.

"While Americans decry what is happening in Ukraine, the United States continues to allow the import of more than half a million barrels per day of crude oil and other petroleum products from Russia during this time of war," Manchin said. "This makes no sense at all and represents a clear and present danger to our nation’s energy security."

A barrel of USSR oil now costs $105+/-.
US buys 500k barrels of oil a day from the USSR.

500k barrels of oil makes about 20 gallons of gas and 12 gallons of diesel fuel.

Using the US DOT/EPA averages
Gas vehicles get about 25+/- miles per gallon on average.
Commercial Diesel trucks average about 12+/- miles per gallon.
42 vehicle miles per barrel of oil.

42+/- driving miles now costing about 174.50% more than it did in Nov. 2020. Consumer goods now cost 174.5% more to deliver and purchase.

The estimated cost of the Ukrainian War to Russia is roughly $34 Billion per day.

The US consumers are paying $52.5 Million a day to fund the Invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Or about 15/100's of 1% per day.

A Russian T-14 Armata Tank costs $3.7M so at $52.5M. The US is funding 14 such Russian tanks per day, OR 2 Su-57 Russian fighter jets.

SOME HISTORY
Oil has gone from $38.25 during the last months of TRUMP's Admin to $105 under the Biden-DC Swamp Admin. Or a 174.50% increase in 1 year 1 month since Biden & his handlers took office.

We have now exceeded the Obama Admin for the cost of Oil. We can expect the national average price of fuels to be the same as Obama's shortly or more due to LSD funded inflation.

#8 There are no sanctions vs. Russian crude oil or natural gas for now, but traders and shippers are increasingly "self-sanctioning," seeking to avoid negative publicity. A substantial portion of Russian crude oil exports isn't being bought, even with huge price discounts.

Self-sanctioning also appears to be affecting Russian natural gas and other commodities, such as wheat.
