Egypt proudly hosts 6 million migrants, refugees: Foreign Ministry
|
[AlAhram] Egypt is proud to host 6 million migrants colonists and refugees and is keen to provide them with decent life just as Egyptian citizens, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday on the occasion of the International Moslem colonists Migrants Day.
"Egypt has always considered migration as a positive phenomenon and an important means to achieve development in origin and destination countries, and it [migration] contributes to the convergence of civilizations and cultures, which leads to the strengthening of tolerance and the spread of a culture of peace and understanding and acceptance of the other," the statement added.
In October, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said at the Visegrad Group (V4) summit in Hungary that he does not allow his country to be a transit point for irregular migrants colonists seeking to reach Europe.
El-Sisi stressed that Egypt had no camps for those refugees, but it, from a human rights

According to other sources including official statements, Egypt has hosted not less than 500,000 Syrians alone since the start of the crisis in Syria.
International Organization for Migration "IOM" states that there are around 3 million migrants colonists in Egypt.
Clearly, the correct number is lots. For perspective:
Egypt's population increased by 750,000 over past 160 days: CAPMAS
From last Monday. [AlAhram] Egypt's population increased by 750,000 over the past 160 days to reach 102,750,000 on Monday, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The country’s population reached 102 million people on 5 July 2021, and 250,000 more babies were born over the following 50 days, CAPMAS said.
Cairo is the governorate with the highest population with 10.1 million people, followed by Giza with 9.3 million people and Sharqiya governorate with 7.7 million.
In February, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi warned of the risks of overpopulation, saying that "unprecedented population growth is Egypt's biggest challenge."
The president added that the country would need to lower the annual population growth rate to 400,000 before Egyptians can reap the fruits of recent development efforts.
They’ve been vaccinating as fast as they can afford with a variety of vaccines, both purchased and domestically produced, so any impact on birthrate/miscarriages should become visible within six months.
