Fighting broke out between the two sides in Kahandhaale area of the Galgadud region Friday afternoon but the course of the clash was not immediately clear.
According to local sources, ’several’ people were killed and others injured in the fighting that last into Friday afternoon. Tension still remains high amid fears of fresh fighting.
Galmadug, which is in central Somalia, has been a hotspot of chaos and is home to Ahmed Kaliye alias Qoorqoor, a close ally of outgoing President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmaajo, who has been accused of sabotage.
Under Farmaajo's administration, the country has been fairly unstable, and there have been deliberate efforts to kick him out of the government in the ongoing elections in the federal republic of Somalia.
