New Jersey plane crash kills Blue Origin astronaut who flew with William Shatner

[FoxBusinessNews] A Blue Origin astronaut who flew on a Blue Origin rocket with William Shatner has died in a New Jersey plane crash.

Glenn M. de Vries, 49, and Thomas P. Fischer, 54, died when a single-engine Cessna 172 crashed on Thursday in Hampton Township.

"We are devastated to hear of the sudden passing of Glen de Vries. He brought so much life and energy to the entire Blue Origin team and to his fellow crewmates. His passion for aviation, his charitable work, and his dedication to his craft will long be revered and admired," Blue Origin tweeted on Thursday.

De Vries was part of the crew that flew on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket on Oct. 13 with William Shatner.

#3 To be a bona fide mega donor, you have to give millions in total to PACs or individual politicians. This guy gave hundreds of thousands to the Dems for the 2020 election cycle. Not mega, but still a fairly big fish.

He was flying in a small, single engine plane with Thomas Fischer, 54, of Fischer Aviation when the plane went down around 3 p.m.

Police and the FAA are currently investigating why the plane crashed

Vries made his fortune through Medidata Solutions, which has managed more than 25,000 clinical trials involving more than seven million patients

According to the Sun, he’s a software almost-billionaire.
