Manchin's Incredible Reaction After Schumer's 'Victory Lap'
|
 [REDSTATE] Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made the Democrats an offer they didn’t refuse in order to avoid the problem of the debt limit and throwing things into chaos. He agreed to the deal for a short-term extension. But the issue still has to be resolved by Dec. 3. Some Republicans were mad that he did that, believing that he gave the Democrats an out.
But instead of thanking McConnell for at least being gracious under the circumstances, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer

took a very Manchin's Incredible Reaction After Schumer's 'Victory Lap’ugly victory lap, blaming the Republicans for the problem that the Democrats had in fact created and continuing to bash them.
"Republicans played a dangerous and risky partisan game, and I am glad that their brinksmanship did not work," Schumer claimed. "[Senate Minority] Leader [Mitch] McConnell and Senate Republicans insisted they wanted a solution to the debt ceiling — but said Democrats must raise it alone by going through a drawn out, convoluted, and risky reconciliation process," Schumer said. "That was simply unacceptable to my caucus," Schumer said, acting like it was the Democrats who had temporarily resolved the situation. "And yesterday, Senate Republicans finally realized that their obstruction wasn’t going to work. I thank, very much thank, my fellow wardheelers for showing our unity in resolving this Republican manufactured crisis."

(D-WV), who has been calling for people to come together, sitting behind him, just shaking his head at what he was hearing, putting his head in his hand and ultimately walking out as Schumer was speaking, not believing what he was hearing with Schumer’s crass and classless attack on McConnell.
Manchin later confirmed that indeed he had been upset with the speech, condemning it, saying that Schumer’s speech was not the way to take out his frustrations.
"I didn’t think it was appropriate at this time," Manchin exclaimed. "We have to de-weaponize. You can’t be playing politics. None of us can — on both sides," Manchin said. "That was not a way to take it out...Civility is gone."
Manchin then continued to say he would not cave on the filibuster despite whatever pressure, speaking about the importance of the filibuster to keep us from chaos.
