[Buy American] The reason your Christmas is going to cost more this year: Huge backlog of SIXTY TWO container ships wait to dock at America's biggest port as global supply chain crunch hits home
|
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] - The port complex of Los Angeles and Long Beach, which moves 40 percent of containers in the US, currently has 62 cargo ships waiting to enter the port
- The backup was brought on by a combination of it being peak shipping period and a pandemic-induced buying boom and labor shortage
- The ports serve as the entry point for a third of imports to the US, and are the main import point for goods coming from China
- The west coast ports have faced traffic since August, when a then record-breaking 44 container ships were stuck off the coast due to similar disruptions
- The Long Beach port is now on pace to break it's all-time record and process than 9 million container units this year, almost a million more units than in 2020
