New York City's transit system was hacked in April, it emerged on Wednesday

Hackers from China accessed the IT services via remote log-in systems

The MTA required 3,700 employees and contractors to change their passwords

Transit authority said that passengers were not at risk, and no data was stolen

It is the third time in recent years that foreign hackers have accessed the MTA

The report of the hack came a month after the Colonial Pipeline was taken out

On Tuesday US operations at the world's largest meat processer were stopped

On Wednesday the ferry between Massachusetts and islands was disrupted

Passengers traveling to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket faced delays

#1 My concerns are if our nuclear arsenals is disabled during a nuclear attack on the US and/or the satellite GPS system is disabled while thousands of driverless Tesla's are operating on the highways.

#7 FWIW, since 2009 the US has had a Joint Cyber Command with Uniformed Officers and civilians working initially as part of the NSA and since 2018 more independently (part of the Trump augment).

They take direction from the Sec of Def and the Joint Chiefs.

I am not sure how much freedom of operation they have. It would be nice if they were allowed to, for example, pay one Russian crime gang to wipe out another Russian crime gang (e.g., the one attacking JBS) but I have no idea what they are allowed to do and what their ROE is set up.

#8 Not dry runs, it seems to me — an industry both government (China, North Korea) and private (Russia, Romania, among others). Bleeding the West as well as indulging pique (North Korea against Sony’s film about Lil Kim some years ago) and making a good deal of money for very little effort.
