Israel's operation against Hamas was the world's first AI war

[JPost] - Having relied heavily on machine learning, the Israeli military is calling Operation Guardian of the Walls the first artificial-intelligence war.
I understand some Americans are unhappy with their country's (which spent 2.4 trillion $ Nation building in Iraq & Afghanistan) military aid to Israel. Think of it as paying for R&D
"For the first time, artificial intelligence was a key component and power multiplier in fighting the enemy," an IDF Intelligence Corps senior officer said. "This is a first-of-its-kind campaign for the IDF. We implemented new methods of operation and used technological developments that were a force multiplier for the entire IDF."

In 11 days of fighting in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military carried out intensive strikes against Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad targets. It targeted key infrastructure and personnel belonging to the two groups, the IDF said.

#1 Israeli forces and the ancillary tech industry have an exemplary synergy. Single minded dedication to cause, focus on function over form, and most of all the unity of purpose that so many military-intelligence bureaucracies lack.

#2 /\ That sounds like it's right out of a leadership development course, which means that, try as they might, the folks at Fort Leavenworth (for the Army) can cite doctrine all day every day, but the politics of the day or just having a shitty leader can render all of that useless.

Clem nails it. Military 'doctrine' gives scant little consideration to the realities of Foggy Bottom and Country Team along with their political and territorial limitations. Once the military intelligence leader discovers his role is purely notional, or squad level tactical, he quickly defaults to discovering his next assignment and promotion. Violating the covenants of the national intelligence structure can find one quickly bound for Flynnladia.
