All three are accused of causing the death of Manuel Ellis, 33, by restraining him during March 2020 arrest

Ellis was heard on surveillance video telling officers, 'I can't breathe'

Ellis, a father of two, died of oxygen deprivation and his death was ruled a homicide

He had been pinned to the ground by cops and had a spit hood put over his head as he walked home from a convenience store with a snack

Tacoma police said they spotted him trying to get inside a car and that they restrained him when he violently threw one of the cops to the ground

Bystander footage released in June cast doubts on the cops' version of events as it showed Ellis being aggressively beaten and restrained by the officers

Ellis had a history of mental illness and addiction. In September 2019, he was found naked after trying to rob a fast food restaurant. A sheriff's deputy subdued him with a Taser after he refused to remain down on the ground and charged toward law enforcement.

But his landlords at the sober housing where he was staying told The Seattle Times he had been doing well in recent months after embracing mental health care for his schizophrenia.

Gee, it's almost as if this mentally ill addict who was a noncompliant suspect was also... violent.

Like, um, a threat to himself and to others. Ya think?
