Florida judge rules two deputies who stood back during the Parkland school massacre should be rehired with back pay and benefits because the sheriff's office took too long to fire them
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • The shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine's Day in 2018 left 17 people dead in total

  • Brian Miller and Joshua Stambaugh were fired after an investigation

  • Sergeant Miller stood outside of the school while the massacre was taking place, while Stambaugh observed the massacre from a nearby highway

  • An arbitrator previously ruled that both deputies should be reinstated

  • Broward Circuit Judge Keathan Frink
... appointed by Governor Rick Scott (R) in 2016...
agreed on Thursday, saying they also are entitled to back pay and other pay for accrued sick time, vacation time, holidays, overtime and more

  • The two deputies stand to make around $580,000 combined at their previous pay level if they are officially reinstated in June

  • The decision came because their firings came too late, per Florida law

  • It's not clear if the Broward Sheriff's Office will appeal the judge's ruling

#1 Well, it's not like a habitual black criminal ODid while being restrained by them.

#2

Bet you I know a Judge that likely won't be re-seated after next election.

#4 Strip them of any qualified immunity and allow the families of those killed to sue.

#5 Would you want one of them as a co-worker? Typical Union decision where someone gets full pay to clock in and sit in a room doing nothing.

Would you want one of them watching out for your kid? They have proven that when push comes to shove, they don't have what it takes. Yeah, that's harsh. I know running to the sound of gunfire is unnatural, but that is what this job is. If I were a parent in the district, I would express my disapproval.
