[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] - Dementia patient Karen Garner, 73, walked out of a Loveland Walmart last June without paying for $13.38 worth of items
- Store employees stopped her at the exit and retrieved the items
- But police officers caught up with her while she was walking back to her house
- Garner, who suffers from dementia, appeared confused when she was stopped, but she was aggressively arrested by two officers
- Bodycam footage shows her face down in the grass as she wails while being handcuffed; she allegedly suffered a fractured arm and a dislocated shoulder
- A lawyer has now filed a civil suit on her behalf
And rightfully so. I generally assume the police were in the right, but they could have controlled her with a hug.
- On Thursday the department placed arresting officer Austin Hopp on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation
- Assisting officer Daria Jalali and supervising sergeant Phil Metzler have been reassigned to administrative duties, the Loveland Police Department said
