Tuareg Tribal Leaders Affirm their Support of Dbaiba's Government in Libya

[LIBYAREVIEW] On Saturday, the notables and leaders of the Tuareg tribes in Libya held a meeting in Ubari city. During this meeting they agreed to unify the Social and Supreme Councils in a single body, provided that all practical and final arrangements will be made within a maximum period of two months.

In a statement, the tribal Sheikhs affirmed their support for the Government of National Unity (GNU), headed by Abdulamid Dbaiba, in its work to establish the foundations of peace and reconciliation in all parts of Libya.

The Tuareg notables also called on the GNU to urgently fulfil its obligations to alleviate the suffering of all Libyans, especially the southern tribes.

#13 The Tuaregs mainly dwelt in the Sahara desert, and had no connection with Spain at all. They controlled trade routes through the central Sahara until the French took over the area. The first hit they received was when the French formed separate countries each of which controlled parts of the Sahara in each of which the Tuaregs were a small minority. The second hit was when those countries gained independence, at which time their central governments mostly were very unfriendly to the Tuaregs. Conflicts between the Tuaregs and those governments, the war in Libya and some natural disasters have left most Tuaregs as paupers in refugee camps.

#15 Moor is a general category for North African in the European view, b. daniel, during the Moslem invasions of Spain a thousand years ago and more, the Tuaregs were freer than city Arabs to go a-conquering.

There were two waves of Berber/Tuareg invasion of the Spanish peninsula: the first wave came over under an Umayyad general in 711 to conquer the Visigoths, then a second wave starting in 1085, Tuaregs invited by the effete, citified descendants of the first wave facing the Spanish reconquest.
