2020-08-19 -War on Police-
Texas will punish cities and towns that defund their police by BANNING them from raising property taxes after state officials say Austin 'bowed to cancel culture' when it voted to slash $150M from their cops
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, spoke on Tuesday to announce the policy

  • All towns and cities that defund police departments will be affected

  • They will not be able to increase property tax in their jurisdictions

  • Abbott's announcement came after Austin cut $150m from their police budget

  • Last week Austin City Council unanimously approved a proposal to cut the police budget by $150 million, about 34 per cent of its current total, and reinvest in other resources

#2 Its only fair - when Austin screwed its PD up, the state Public Safety has to step in, and that cost taxpayers in the rest of Texas money to cover what they lazy asshole lefties in Austin did. I say the state should bill Austin for the extra services it is forced to provide.

Typical liberals - SJW policy that others pay the price for - and taxpayers bear the cost.

#3 Deny Austin city council the state school funding and any other state funding. Send a check to each resident instead and let them decide whether to fund or defund Austin government.

#4 Keep Austin Wierd. The tax refund makes sense but only if it's illegal to send it on to the local gummint.

#6 Army Futures Command is down that way, isn't it? Depending on how fat that gets, that might move up on the employer scale.

#8 It'd have to pass the legislature and would likely be challenged. You think you could find an Austin judge to overrule any such law that did get out of the legislature?

#9 The local sheriff's should just take over the Austin police duties, staff, and budget. Cops out of the control of the elected officials is the smart move.
