#2 So, that's HIS motive.
Why'd the cop send a bullet to catch him?
They could have coolly picked him up the next day.

#3 Atlanta officer who shot dead Rayshard Brooks is charged with felony murder as it's revealed he kicked the father-of-four as he lay dying on the ground after putting two bullets in his back - and second cop charged has agreed to testify against him

#4 Got to agree with #2. Like unnecessary high speed chases, this whole thing could have been handled by picking him up later. Add running from the cops to the other charges and he's (at least on paper) going back to jail for some time. OTOH, seems jail has a bigger revolving door than the immigration courts these days.

#7 Picking him up the next day might not work. He might go into hiding. If a guy like that resists arrest, the assumption must be that he's worried about more than a DUI. He could be an armed and dangerous felon who would cause more harm if he isn't stopped immediately. His victim(s) are likely to be black. Nobody seems to consider the fact that police are protecting black citizens as well as white. All of these cases with black men getting killed by police have one thing in common. The suspect always resists arrest. When it gets down to a physical struggle like that, all bets are off.

#8 Whoever resists arrest should die. I mean running is okay. But scuffling with officers of the law, trying to disarm them, all that is BZZZT ! Bullet eating time !

#9 Unless he was using someone else car they should have run the plates and known who they were dealing with and thus might fight back or run.

#10 Outrunning small arms fire, you've just got to be in tip top shape and very lucky. Failing that, you're a dead man. That's about all there is to it.

#11 From the article:

As the interaction neared its tragic conclusion, Brooks suggested to officers that he could just walk home saying that it wasn't far.

But after Brooks failed a field sobriety test and blew 0.108 when breathalyzed (0.08 is the legal limit in Georgia), Rolfe who has since been fired, moved to cuff Brooks who suddenly resisted. Both officers were clearly taken by surprise.

If he weren’t on probation, I assume they would have helped him move his car and walk home, but once he tested above the legal alcohol limit were the police required to bring him in for breaking probation or something?

#12 Why didn't the police just slice through both of his Achilles tendons so the dude couldn't run. Then there'd have been no need to shoot him. Or do I not see the problem correctly?

#16 Skid is right. They had his car, ID, breath test...and running off just adds to the charges. They could have got him any time later. There's no excuse for this.

#17 Charge the cop with policing in a black neighborhood while white. His immediate superiors too for assigning him there.
